Warner Bros Announces Friday the 13th Part 2

The idea of a remake having a sequel is a confusing concept, Halloween II is a prime example of that, but Warner Bros has taken it a step further. We’ve known for months that Friday the 13th would have a follow up due to its immense success earlier this year. According to Bloody Disgusting, the studio has announced the official release date for the film’s sequel as well as the title, Friday the 13th: Part 2.

The next film in the Jason Voorhies reboot saga will hit theaters on August 13, 2010. With the exception of Halloween II, the recent horror reboots have been doing quite well at the box office. The studio might have also taken note of the overwhelmingly positive buzz that the first trailer for A Nightmare on Elm Street generated. Friday the 13th: Part 2 will ironically be the thirteenth installment in the film franchise.

The new title for the movie raises a few questions that I need answers to. These days sequels are usually branded as “2″ or “II”, the whole “Part 2″ title isn’t as common as it used to be. Part 2 means the story is still in motion, both films can be watched back to back and they’d tell a linear narrative without any jumps. This is an interesting take on the franchise, I wonder how they’re going to pull this off.
