Kobe Bryant And Others Might Play In China During Lockout

Los Angeles Lakers star guard Kobe Bryant could spend the lockout playing basketball in China, the Los Angeles Times reports.
According to the Times, there are preliminary talks about Bryant and other NBA stars banding together to form a barnstorming team for a tour through China. Bryant has a large following in the country and told the Times it was a “home away from home”.
Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Derrick Williams, who is represented by Bryant’s agent, Rob Pelinka, said Bryant and Pelinka are spearheading the effort to create a tour.
“Hopefully I would be able to do that because I’ve never been out of the country and I think that would be the best thing for me,” Williams said to the Times.

Williams told the newspaper several of Pelinka’s clients might take part in the tour.
President of the NBA players’ union Derek Fisher, also a Pelinka client, is one name the Times cited as a possible addition. The NBA, in the middle of a large labour dispute, could take Fisher’s absence during a critical time as a huge slap to the face, the paper wrote.
“I can’t tell you he wouldn’t be interested in [the tour], but as of right now that’s not something that’s being brought to our attention at all,” Fisher’s publicist Jamie Wior said to the Times.
