Laptop Thief Caught After Stolen Computer Catches Him Sleeping

A British crook was nabbed after some crafty software on a laptop he stole snapped a picture of him sleeping and pinpointed his location, London's The Sun reported.

Rastin Khalaji, 19, snatched an unidentified student's computer from her house in Bristol, in southwest England, on Aug. 20, but wasn't aware that the machine had been tricked out with an anti-theft device called Prey, authorities said.

After the owner realized it was missing, she activated the tracker from a friend's computer, prompting her stolen machine to begin recording the bandit's online activity, including his WiFi address, the Sun reported.

The next morning, the owner received an email showing that her laptop was at an address in the suburb of Clifton, along with a picture of the shirtless perp snoozing in bed.

Khalaji got a rude awakening when he found cops at his door just a few hours later.

He was convicted on Tuesday of handling stolen goods and sentenced to community service and a curfew.
Bristol police said they had recovered three smartphones in the past two months using similar tracking technology, The Sun reported.
