How To Make Matte Red Lipstick Work During The Day:
1) She kept everything else around her lips clean. I'm not just talking about the rest of her makeup—that's a rule I'm sure you guys know by now. But her ponytail is frizz-free, her visor is sleek and even her earrings, while big, are just simple thick gold hoops with a little detail. Then she threw on some necklaces and a patterned shirt, but they don't detract from the prettiness because they're below her neck, you see. Smart.
2) The color is just slightly muted. Not that you can't go bright in the day, but it just takes a little more energy from the rest of your look when you hit the sunlight. Going with a shade that's just a touch off of a primary hue is a safer bet.
And 3) Her skin is mostly matte, too. Yes, she has a hint of a glow—she's human, after all (makeup superpowers aside). But if she had more of a glow going on here, it would make her lips look more night-glam.
